Embracing the Metamorphosis – On Authenticity and Change

by Rachel

I go back and forth on my blog name. I came up with Vida de Polilla on a bumpy dirt road one night after coming home from New Orelans just before the pandemic hit and everything was shut down. You already know that vida means life, but polilla means moth. I feel that my life is in constant change. I don’t stay in any one stage for long. So the name expresses that. Metamorphosis.

I tried to focus on just one thing but it didn’t feel authentic or natural to me. I took a blogging course and learned to hone down to one niche, to do keyword research, to publicize and to judge all of my work by number of views. Well, that last part was just me. But blogging that way is a creativity killer. You don’t speak with your authentic voice when you’re trying to fit keywords in. You’re changing your voice to sound like the voice of every other travel blogger. You’re just writing for views and not your heart. And that didn’t feel like me. It’s never been me.

Writing, for me, has always been a huge source of creativity, insight and flow.

I wasn’t made to sell shit.

ANYWAY, what I am up to lately is studying French, practicing more yoga, practicing photography, integrating minimalism and simplicity into my life. Learning how to not ruminate. Those types of things. And when I get time to travel, boy do I travel!

Maybe if I write clever commentary on French I will learn it faster. That’s thought that I will definitely be putting into action.
