Love never fails. It’s easy to believe when you’re in love but if you’re not? Ummm…it might not be so apparent, but love STILL never fails, but the love that we all truly desire is the love of God and from yourself.
I know that sounds like a copout and I DON’T want to sound like some kind of missionary, but it’s true. If you are expecting to always receive from a human partner we will end up feeling empty.
Love and Relationships
In 2020 I went on a three month trip with someone who I thought might be twin flame. I knew that in the spiritual life the love of God is everything, but I still had certain expectations for how I hoped he would treat me.
When I was with him I felt an overwhelming feeling of sadness because he was not fulfilling my expectations. Rather than appreciating the fact that he was there and learn about who he was little by little, instead I felt disappointed because of expectations.
I began to look for HIS love to fill me up instead of self love and God’s love. I was happy when he was giving me his attention and affirmations and was very sad each time he failed to meet those expectations.
When I allow the Love to fill me up then I don’t have to be piling expectations onto other human beings. Don’t let someone treat you like shit. But also learn how to give yourself the love you desire.
How to Experience God’s Love
I remember being in prayer many, many years ago and asking God how to feel his love. All the saints spoke about God’s love in their writings, and Catholic sources spoke about love. But I just felt guilty and unworthy all the time. There was such a focus on the falling-short that I couldn’t see past it. I could intellectually believe in the love of God but I never felt it.
The key to feeling God’s love is to feel emotions inside, the tiny voice of your inner child or other wounded version of you. This version of you needs and wants love, needs and wants to feel heard. You have to go inside and ask that version of yourself why they are feeling the way they are feeling and validate them there. It also helps to ask the Holy Spirit to come to you and show you His love.
If I go into my interior and a version of me is saying that she feels like she’s not enough because of something that happened, I give her the comfort and reassurance that she needs and that part of myself can integrate back into myself. When you clear out these hard feelings and self blame and shame, you can feel the presence of God. God feels like peace, and love that never fails.
Love Never Fails – Free Wallpaper
I created three different types of wallpaper using the quote “Love Never Fails” from 1 Corinthians 13:8. There’s two sappy versions with roses and one with bark and butterflies for us nature types!
*I mistyped the verse number at first but it’s fixed on the downloadable versions.
I hope you enjoy these wallpapers! If you’re feeling the need for another love affirmation I invite you to follow the link to I Am Loving and Lovable – Affirmation for the New Year + Free Wallpaper.
